The Soloist Is "One Book, One Community" Selection
WKAR is pleased to take part in the East Lansing One Book, One Community program this year. This fall’s selection is The Soloist, by Steve Lopez. The book, which tells the true story of the friendship between an award-winning journalist and a homeless mentally ill musician, was recently the subject of both a 60 Minutes feature and a feature film starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx.
Lopez will appear at the opening lecture on Sunday, August 30, at the East Lansing High School auditorium at 7 p.m. No tickets are required for this free event. Lopez will also welcome freshmen at the MSU Academic Welcome at Breslin Student Events Center on August 31.
WKAR Radio will offer 10 book giveaways in the week prior to the event, so listen to 90.5 WKAR. for your chance to win.
Sponsored by the City of East Lansing and MSU, One Book, One Community encourages the city-university to read the same book and come together to discuss it in a variety of settings.
