Visit WKAR-TV's Digital Road Show at the East Lansing Art Festival

Join WKAR as we officially “usher in” spring at this year’s East Lansing Art Festival (ELAF), on Saturday, May 17 (10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and on Sunday, May 18 (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). 2008 marks the popular event’s 45th anniversary of celebrating the arts – visual, hands-on, and musical performances – throughout the city’s main thoroughfare.

WKAR will also be part of the event as we take our “Digital TV Roadshow” on the road and center stage at the festival’s Albert Street (surface) parking lot exhibit area. Stop by our booth and ask members of WKAR’s digital transition team questions about digital conversion, converter boxes, and antennas. We’ll have information on hand to help make your move into digital television easier. (WKAR's tent will be located by the Ann Street parking lot exit structure near the intersection of Ann and Grove Streets.)

The two-day event will feature more than 230 artists and craftspeople from all over the United States and Canada. Art experts have juried hundreds of applicants to select an exciting variety of work in ceramics, painting, fiber arts, prints, jewelry, photography, sculpture, wood, glass, leather, and mixed media.

There will also be a variety of free arts activities for children and families, guild demonstrations, and an international-style food court offering flavors from around the world.

The ELAF will continue its tradition of presenting an eclectic offering of musical performances on two stages during the two-day event including festival favorites such as the East Lansing High School Jazz Band, Root Doctor, Jen Sygit & Spare Change, Kitty Donohoe, and Mystic Shake. Other groups scheduled to perform include Gemini, Moira Smiley & Voco, Detour, the MSUCMS Suzuki Program, Barons of Brass, Sonas, Jocelyn Scofield, Laura Bates & Brandon Foote, Millish, Down the Line, The London Trio, Nervous But Excited, and Seth Bernard & Daisy May. And, making their ELAF debut this year will be the MSU Professors of Jazz!

Main Stage performances will be hosted by Wanda Degen, Douglas Neal, and WKAR’s Bob Blackman. Mike Cutler will host the Ingham Regional Medical Center Stage West.

And, of course it wouldn’t be an ELAF without appearances and performances by Crazy Richard, the Madd Juggler!
