"The Vicar of Dibley" Wins Britcom Marathon
Viewers watching on Saturday, June 7, cast their votes for the British comedy to air in the 9 p.m. slot in July, when rights for Keeping Up Appearances expire.
The winner was The Vicar of Dibley, a contemporary comedy written by Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Notting Hill, Four Weddings and a Funeral). The comedy stars Dawn French as Geraldine Granger, the newly appointed vicar to the Oxfordshire village parish of Dilbey. She's anything but the aged, staid vicar whose death triggered her arrival, and the town and its parishoners are in for some changes!
Keeping Up Appearance placed second in the voting, with 53 votes to Vicar's 56 votes. Other comedies considered were To the Manor Born (26 votes), 'Allo, 'Allo (2 votes) and My Hero (3 votes).
We'll include more information about The Vicar of Dibley when the program premieres in July.
