“Live from Lincoln Center” Presents Higher Ground Hurricane Benefit Relief Concert
Monday, September 19
at 8 p.m. on WKAR-TV

WKAR-TV Broadcasts Lincoln Center Hurricane Katrina Relief Concert

WKAR-TV will air the second of two hurricane relief concerts on Monday, September 19, at 8 p.m. The concert, length to be determined as of this writing, is produced by Live from Lincoln Center.

PBS and the Emmy-Award winning PBS series will unite in common cause to raise money for Hurricane Katrina victims. Some of the performers scheduled to appear on this live special include Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, Ken Burns, Cyrus Chestnut, Peter Cincotti, Elvis Costello, Bill Cosby, Robert De Niro, Paquito D'Rivera, Jon Henddricks, Diana Krall, Abbey Lincoln, Bette Midler, Dianne Reeves, Marcus Roberts, Paul Simon, Meryl Streep, James Taylor, McCoy Tyner, Cassandra Wilson, and Buckwheat Zydeco.

The special will be both a fundraiser for those affected by the hurricane and a tribute to them and the rescue personnel handling relief efforts.

WKAR previously interrupted its September on-air fundraising campaign to broadcast another hurricane relief concert, Shelter from the Storm. Other efforts undertaken by WKAR Radio and TV to support hurricane relief efforts include fundraising for the American Red Cross during Morning Edition and broadcast of video spots in-between programs highlighting the service efforts of volunteers aiding hurricane relief – both fundraising and working with evacuees and on-site in the Gulf region. Videos will also be available for online viewing at WKAR.org as they are completed.
