Magic Moments: The Best of '50s Pop
Sunday, December 11 at 8 p.m. on WKAR-TV John Denver: A Song's Best Friend Sunday, December 11 at 6:30 and 10:30 p.m. on WKAR-TV WKAR Announces "Best of" Programs for Sunday, December 11 WKAR-TV will wrap up its annual December on-air membership campaign with encores of two popular music programs, Magic Moments: The Best of '50s Pop and John Denver: A Song's Best Friend on Sunday, December 11, beginning at 8 p.m. Magic Moments: The Best of '50s Pop Take a stroll down memory lane with the pop sounds of the '50s in Magic Moments: The Best of '50s Pop. This reunion brings together the greatest recording artists from the 50s pop era. Taped in Atlantic City's Trump Taj Mahal and hosted by Mary Lou Metzger, Phyllis McGuire and Pat Boone, Magic Moments: The Best of '50s Pop features a cavalcade of 1950's pop music recording legends, reuniting and performing their biggest hits. The McGuire Sisters (who reunite for the first time since 1967), Debbie Reynolds, Patti Page, the Chordettes, the Crew Cuts, the Four Lads, the Four Aces, the Four Coins, Don Cherry, Gogi Grant and more take the stage and share the good times. This nostalgia-fest features a mix of new performances and short archival footage transitions of the fads, fashions, news stories and pop cultural events of the'50s decade. Tribute montages also highlight the superstar'50s pop icons who have died in recent years (Dean Martin, Perry Como, Rosemary Clooney, Johnny Ray and more). Special guest presenters include Wink Martindale, Rip Taylor, Brett Somers, Dr. Joyce Brothers, the Lennon Sisters, Nick Clooney, Fess parker and Joni James. John Denver: A Song’s Best Friend

John Denver: A Song's Best Friend is a touching look at the man and his legacy, focusing on his most famous songs, with background and insight from those closest to him. The program features interviews with his ex-wife Annie, producer and arranger Milt Okun, manager Hal Thau, conductor and composer Lee Holdridge, and band members Pete Huttlinger and John Somers. In selections from his popular 1970s television specials, and rare footage from concerts including Sing Australia! (1984 and 1994) and Red Rocks (1973 and 1982), Denver performs cherished classics including "Sunshine On My Shoulders," "Country Roads," and "Rocky Mountain High," as well as other beloved favorites including "Perhaps Love," "Thank God I'm a Country Boy," and "This Old Guitar."
