P. Allen Smith's Garden Holidays for the Home Saturday, December 2, at 1 p.m. One of public television's favorite gardening experts, P. Allen Smith, believes that inside or outside, you can have a "garden home." Allen offers tips on decorating for the holidays in this half-hour program, airing in The Victory Garden time period. Dr. Nicholas Perricone's 7 Secrets to Beauty, Health and Longevity Saturday, December 2, at 2 p.m.; Tuesday, December 5, at 8 p.m.; Also on 'KAR2 Dr. Nicholas Perricone, M.D., presents the culmination of an entire lifetime of work and research into why and how we age. Celtic Woman: A New Journey Saturday, December 2, at 9 p.m.; Also on 'KAR2 The five young Irish women who wowed audiences in Celtic Woman last year return with a new program and another young singer in the cast: New Zealand-born international recording star Hayley Westenra, whose forebears hailed from County Monaghan, Ireland. Celtic Woman — A New Story was recorded at historic Slane Castle, which is steeped in Irish history. A blend of classics, contemporary hits and original material, the individual and collective performances in the concert take full advantage of the castle setting in County Meath. The Snow Queen Sunday, December 3, at 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The Snow Queen , a stunning version of the Hans Christian Andersen classic, is for children and adults alike. The powerful presentation combines live-action with animation, with dialogue interwoven seamlessly with songs and music. This adaptation stars Juliet Stevenson and Kenneth Welsh and features the voice of Patrick Stewart. Performances are set against animated backgrounds, with songs and music performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The roles of Gerda and Kay are played by Sydney White and Pax Baldwin. In The Snow Queen , Kay, a young homeless boy is befriended by young Gerda, and taken in by her mother. They become best friends. Then a fragment of ice pierces Kay's eye; he becomes angry and unhappy. Suddenly, the Snow Queen — magnificent in white fur and jewels — arrives. Kay hooks his sled to her chariot and is swept away to her ice palace. Gerda, sets out to find him. Will she be able to defeat the Snow Queen and bring him home? America in Concert Sunday, December 3, at 1:30 p.m.; Thursday, December 7, at 10 p.m.; Also on 'KAR2 Thirty years after they hit the top of the charts with "A Horse With No Name" and became serial hit-makers throughout the 1970s, Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley — America — are back on the road in concert. Their appearance in Australia is captured in America In Concert: Live at the Sydney Opera House . Songs included in the concert include "Ventura Highway," Don't Cross the River, "Sister Golden Hair, "Do You Believe in Magic?" and "You Can Do Magic." The Pet Doctor with Marty Becker Sunday, December 3, at 5 p.m. Animals are great companions that bring tremendous rewards to those who provide for their health and happiness. In The Pet Doctor with Marty Becker , Dr. Marty Becker offers the latest information on building a greater bond with pets and keeping them in the best possible health. The special focuses on disease prevention as Dr. Becker demonstrates how to check a pet for obesity and offers tips for diagnosing illnesses in the early stages. Easy-to-follow methods for such tasks as brushing a cat or dog's teeth and administering pills are provided, along with ways to protect pets from common parasites such as heartworm, fleas and ticks. But their treatment in America over the last half-century has been surprisingly unkind for our next of kin in the animal world. The remarkable efforts by individuals and organizations to give them a second chance at a life of freedom, are told in Chimpanzees: An Unnatural History. In 1959, the United States Air Force captured dozens of baby chimpanzees in Africa, transporting them to New Mexico, where they were to endure a grueling life as the ultimate human stand-ins. Now, viewers meet several dedicated people who are running organizations to help save the chimps and make their lives better. Return to Balance: A Climber's Journey Monday, December 4, at 10:30 p.m. The dazzling majesty of Yosemite National Park forms a backdrop for the artistry of renowned climber Ron Kauk, whose fingertip hold on climbing's vertical world creates a unique and compelling visual experience. Trans-Siberian Orchestra: Ghosts of Christmas Eve Friday, December 8, at 8 p.m. Trans-Siberian Orchestra: Ghosts of Christmas Eve , narrated by the late Ossie Davis, is a fantasy trip through the magic of Christmas. A runaway girl decides to return to her family after she enters a rundown theatre for shelter and encounters an old caretaker (Davis), who guides her on her journey. The caretaker brings the theater to life through various musical performances by singers Jewel, Michael Crawford, and the Tran-Siberian Orchestra. "Christmas has always evoked the most powerful emotions and passions in people," says group founder Paul O'Neill. "It's those emotions that draw people together, and it's this sort of music that serves as a conduit for the magic and spirit of the holidays."
