Old Town Jazz Fest
August 3-4, 2007

WKAR Personalities Intro Acts at Jazz Fest

It will be a “hot time in the old town tonight” when the 13th annual JazzFest opens in the heart of Lansing’s Old Town on Friday, August 3. Sponsored by the Old Town Business and Art Development Association, the free two-day festival brings national, regional, and local acts to a mid-Michigan audience.

JazzFest’s music truly is live music, and each festival artist is requested to debut an original composition for fans – a piece that hasn’t been played at any other festival. This year’s JazzFest is dedicated to the memory of Robert Busby, who was affectionately known as the “mayor” of Old Town and was a long-time supporter of the area’s revitalization.

This year’s stellar line-up includes: the Kris Johnson Quartet, the Neil Gordon Quartet, the Paul VornHagen Quintet, Mose Allison, Sunkwa, the Old Town All Stars, the Lanswingers, the Children’s Ballet Theatre of Michigan, Organissimo, Happendance, Too Smooth for Notes, Koke McKesson, Mose Allison, Ritmo, and the Lansing All Stars.

WKAR Radio on-air personalities – Mark Bashore, Dan Bayer, Melissa Ingells, and Scott Pohl – will also be there to welcome jazz fans to the festival as they host a variety of performances throughout the two day event.

In keeping with a true street festival, performances will run on August 3 from 5:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. and on August 4 from 2:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., surrounded by the best of the Capital City’s art galleries as well as unique retail stores and grand architecture. Vendors will also be on hand offering ethnic food, beverages, art, clothing, and crafts. The festival’s location will be at the intersection of Turner Street and Grand River Avenue.
